Breaking, All for the Better

Breaking into pieces,
the dissemination of our core,
is what brings us to awareness,
what starkly shows us more
of who we truly are.
We may hide from ourselves,
ignore personal truths till they are raw,
from the battering life affords us,
when we refuse to comply and stall,
when change is a necessity.
So in breaking we succumb
to the nature of our learning,
the stubborn refusals and wrong discerning
that keep us stagnant,
soon becomes our saving.
In so many pieces I’ve been,
strewn carelessly on the floor,
my heart a bloodless crusted refuse,
shattered like a broken glass, and even then I restored,
from the learning there was more.
And no matter the pain,
the humiliation of self-harm,
there is always a point at which we revive,
and without sanction move on, survive,
for we know deep down, we needed it.
The repetition is something else,
lessons not learned, innate nature unturned,
and then the breaking is harder to accept,
our inept ways resounding so clearly,
our pride in tatters, ill-kept.
Life can indeed be difficult,
but mostly because of us,
too prideful to learn, too stupid not to duck,
and easier it would be in acceptance,
the breaking for the learning of this world,
if we understood the consequence,
each time we uttered words.
Breaking into pieces,
the reality we so deplore,
when mistakes become our trademark,
and learning the need for more,
as reality is forced upon us,
and we all shattered on our knees,
sobbing, beg for mercy,
what we created we must see.
