Tsunami…the Venting

The wave swells with gargantuan girth,
like a pulsing heart filled afore birth,
awaiting that moment of release,
that beginning of consciousness,
a new and tainted light of human grief;
and so attests the water’s rise,
a wave uncompromising and bound by hurt,
as it writhes, glides, amassing
in a low-pitched growl,
its rolling thunder ever louder,
swelling, under its spreading wall of desire,
pulling, dragging, expanding
its massive force, higher and wider,
seeking land, to ravage,
to drench in a deep foreboding liquid fear,
empowered to end life,
so austere.
And at its peak, its crested white relief
comes down, twisting and turning,
tearing cities to shredded bone,
and life so prone is torn apart, swept so swiftly
like grains of sand,
and the roar of is currents resound,
as if the chilling howl of a monster
leaving bloody trails and death, everywhere,
as buildings fall, cars like matchsticks
thrown around, and blurred that water,
in rapids churning ground
as cries of human anguish rise above the tide,
drowning silent pleas imbibe,
and the swell radiates, outward bound,
as the sea slowly ebbs to calmer state,
and bodies float atop the muddy jetsam,
as silence looms.
The aftermath assumes a sadness,
lost, so many lives,
and those who stood in buildings sound,
thank God for their survival,
and decimation lines the streets,
carnage amid twisted metal, mud and flesh entombed,
they resume their thoughts,
of family at home safe and sound,
while they survived the wave of waves,
a city gone, a penance paid
as nature shows its darker side of woe,
and silent voices plead for mercy,
no more pain, as smaller waves ensue,
like echoes to remind them
what she can do,
when earth does vent her struggles.

A terrifying occurrence for sure, and so devastating. Oft times, when things are going well, when we become over confident and proud, Mother Nature reminds us we are just humble human and stirs things up. Great piece with vivid imagery and tension – well done, Tony.
Much appreciated Phyllis, yes nature is a formidable force indeed. Cheers!
