Surviving the Rapids
Free flowing rivers strike rocks
and jagged breaches to become rapids,
churned waters of twisting contorted forms,
white crested and bubbling
in an endless journey of conflicted direction;
and watching this turbulence
it occurs to me that life
is often reflected in this state,
when turbulence and confusion mark our days,
as if adrift in the stream,
battered and tossed to extremes
of thought and emotion.
How often nature is our guide,
our mirror of teaching,
from clear waters to storms,
and back again, a clear representation
of life’s paths in so many changes
for us to sate and overcome,
the lessons in life we require
through hardship and pain,
conflict and the gaining of knowledge
gleaned from those disruptive days,
where it seems we can barely
keep our heads above water.
Every change has its cause,
its needed circumstance,
and with insight we can read them,
know from where they came,
when obstacles gather, always more than one,
for us to acknowledge
what we need to overcome and learn,
and so that momentary being swept away,
is that lost foundation of feet upon the ground,
and when the struggle ends,
the lesson has been delivered
to us in still waters: if we open our eyes.
There is no purpose other than learning,
although victimization can seem real,
and when we struggle against the changes,
we just prolong the pain,
so its better to look at the present,
discover why and let it all flow
to its ultimate conclusion,
as the only control we have is how we react to it,
so in acceptance we ease our judgement
and let it be,
let providence allow ourselves to change
as is meant to be.

Excellent piece, Tony. It is futile to struggle against change, yet so often we struggle. It is within the struggle we can choose to observe, open our eyes, and finally accept changes. It is a learning process to help us grow and find balance. You have expressed the importance of flowing with change. Well done. Take care.
Thanks Phyllis, pleased you related and enjoyed the piece. Take care dear friend.
You are doing a tremendous job. It is very enlightening and achieves what it desires. I will make sure that I read all of your blogs in future. It will definitively enhance my knowledge.
