Sights And Sounds That America Makes
Mountain water from bubbling springs
Gentle winds slip easily across the plains
Leaves of every shape and size and color
Fields of grain gently moving to and fro
Rows of sweet corn covering endless miles
The scent of wildflowers and sweet woodruff
Echoes of laughing children which never fade
Sights and sounds that America makes
Deep throated engines roaring to life
Motorcycles, bicycles, and tricycles
The perpetual motion of mechanization
Turning wheels of a long-haul trucker
Squeaks and creaks of a slowing freight train
Turbines spooling, propellers turning
Sunlight reflecting from sleek aluminum bodies
Sights and sounds that America makes
Deep resounding bellow of a tugboat horn
Wind whipping across the bow of a sailing ship
Container ships stacking and unstacking
Heavy mooring ropes covered in dried salt
Weathered wood planks underfoot
The sweet high pitched ring of a brass bell
Pleasure crafts inching into the calm lagoon
Sights and sounds that America makes
Conversations by the hundreds and thousands
Bodies of every size moving in every direction
A melting pot from across the globe
Blaring horns and the banter of daily commerce
Streetlights flashing from red to yellow to green
Time is ticking, snarling traffic and tensions rising
Hot dog vendors like old fashioned carnival barkers
Sights and sounds that America makes
A resounding crack of a Louisville Slugger
Roaring crowds gathered by the right field fence
Popcorn, peanuts, hot dogs! Constant shouting
Helmeted giants colliding in sporting combat
Pausing only when the shrill whistle finally blows
Cross checking skaters pounding on the oval boards
High tops squeaking on the oiled oak floors
Sights and sounds that America makes
Rhythmic squeaking of an heirloom rocking chair
A baby crying softly on a moonless night
Two lovers clinking glasses on a quiet veranda
Whispers of little girls watching little boys
Dogs barking and the sounds of running feet
Collective oohs and awes of a gathered crowd
Fireworks bursting overhead in a shower of light
Amazing sights and sounds that America makes

Lots of fine imagery Ralph, well phrased and penned my friend. Well done. And thanks for finally getting the FB problem fixed. All looks good. Cheers!
Delightful read, Ralph, emotive and so nicely penned. Well done dear poet.
Absolutely delightful and just in time for me. I have at long last returned to my homeland the U.S. and for now settled in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Loved this Ralph as someone that spends considerable time in the Rocky Mountains I really relate to this – once again an awesome job.
