Right and Wrong…for the Record

How we grapple with right,
what we feel aligns with our beliefs,
and that very equity between the both
determines the line on which we stand,
the demarcation of our extreme limits
never to be crossed.
Yet our thoughts are predetermined to fit,
the limits and where they sit,
and we may adjust that line any time
to fit within our wants,
belief then a consideration in flux,
a rule of infinite measure.
Right then becomes the battlefield
of belief and necessity,
ever-evolving with our needs
the circumstances that force adjustment,
as we justify our actions
in the name of righteous determination.
Morality seems no longer a measure,
rather an endless spectrum of ideas
that can be countermanded
in the difficulty of opposing circumstance,
and easily justified by a self-serving reason,
benefiting we alone.
Responsibility is waning,
as people chose self-preservation over morality,
and right is a misnomer, no-one prepared
to sacrifice in order to balance inequities,
rather justify wrong in the name of right,
a calamity I cannot abide.
The concept of morality has been lost for many,
it no longer holds water, just an echo of past,
where rules were adhered to and life was harsh but just,
and now narcissism grows like a fungus,
rules just meant to be broken
for the cause of self benefit.
Right and wrong has become an argument of degrees,
an infinite scope of variations upheld,
given the circumstances and justification
of those who would have no boundaries at all, they
simply excuse themselves based on their own wants,
and in the end attest right for the record.

Morality, like respect and many other good things once lived by, has just gone by the wayside. Far too many people now do not care about right and wrong, they don’t even think about it. This piece is a good message for all to remember. Excellent work, Tony. Take care.
Glad you appreciated it Phyllis. Take care.
