My golden haired boy
My golden haired boy …
You’ve been way more than a friend closer to me than many a human
but where do you get off demanding so much
From the moment I awaken to the hours after I sleep
you alert and there by my side
Augustus or Gus these days how do you love so well
you walk there at my heels and grow solemn when I stop
You sleep fitfully with your head on my feet
as if waiting always waiting
We speak too as if both of us where either human
or dog yet I ‘ve not one regret for we are one
and will be long long into the future
this kinship the connection of souls
When you run in the big fields you turn and turn in circles
as if not knowing why or where
your head held high your heart racing
until you tire and we walk away slowly
But just know that if you go first you must wait there
by the gate for me
And I will wait for you somewhere too
my golden haired boy

A beautiful “connection of souls”. There is so much love and understanding between a dog and his human. A touching, heart-warming verse, Ed. Take care.
And I’m sure that’s true, we are connected to our much loved companions. Gus looks absolutely beautiful. I have the same relationship with my cat Beast. We are very much connected in many ways; I would be lost without him. Heart-warming and a well penned tribute to your golden boy. Great work Ed.
Heart warming piece Ed. I’d like to think I have that bond with my yellow lab as well. To my dogs are that friend you have every day, that companion you know will be by your side every step, Not faltering in their determination to make you happy. It’s such a special bond that we can share with an animal. Nice work
Gus is a beautiful dog, Ed. This is a wonderful tribute to man’s best friend. I can’t remember a time I didn’t have at least one dog, and at one time five. Now I have two old dogs and six cats. I can’t go anywhere without my old dog Coco following along.
