Keeping Score

You say one, so I’ll do two

You might taste, but I will chew

Open a window, I’ll open the door

My strange system of keeping score

Have a sip, I’ll drink a cup

You say down, I say up

You have a penny, I have many

Take nineteen, I’ll get twenty

I feel superior, while you’re inferior

Cheating to your competing

I’ll get the body, give you the tip

Get a grip, it’s upmanship

The causation for my intimidation

My inflation and your damnation

The straw you drew, it’s me or you

Your stuff is old, while mine is new

Feeling pleasure because I’m better

I am rich and you’re a debtor

I always win, drink top shelf gin

You are out and I am in

My arrogance is without measure

Surround myself with loads of treasure

Diamonds, jewels, and lots of cash

Watching you take out the trash

But I cannot hide, from what’s inside

I’m like a groom without a bride

Being great doesn’t make me happy

Instead I’m always feeling crappy

I’m not the best at fixing things

Always busy pulling strings

Weaving my immortal thread

Planning things for when I’m dead

I’m afraid of reciprocity

Not much for generosity

Overbearing, lots of swearing

Keep away, I don’t like sharing

I have no friends as you can see

Everything depends on me

The little people are like sheeple

They are prey and I’m an eagle

I’m so great, and yet so lonely

Could my greatness, be in name only

Staring in my half full glass

I see a guy who’s full of gas

A windbag with a fragile ego

Preaching a ridiculous credo

Acting like a king or god

When deep inside I’m truly flawed

Please draw one, I’ll draw one too

Maybe we can share a brew

Keeping score is such a bore

Decided no! Not any more

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

Clever write Ralph, yes competition is so pointless and ego driven, we soon learn the fallacy of it and certainly it doesn’t make us happy. Nicely penned and enjoyed.

The rhythm and flow of this was great, Ralph, and I enjoyed the subject. We may all excel at certain things but there are always others better than us at others. If we think we are the best at something, odds are that we aren’t that anyway.

Arrogance doesnt get you anywhere at all. Like john said there are very very few things, if any, that we can say we are the best at, no doubt. Money cannot buy happiness either. Nice rhyme, fast paced and flowing. Good work Ralph.
