Each, a Unique Journey

What stays in life,
fits within the parameters of our needs,
and what doesn’t fades with time,
relenting its hold on us,
it purpose no longer apt.
And so we live
with lasting consequences
or short-lived circumstances forced by change
to be dismissed without function,
outmoded and remiss.
The world then changes constantly,
as gifts and travail occupy and abandon our lives,
in a parade of adaptation,
learning and growth,
sometimes frustrating but always necessary.
We often struggle with the process,
clinging to the outmoded
or questioning the necessities of our path,
and in that, learn what fits and what does not,
an ascendant cycle of maturation.
Rather than question what falls away,
or what stays against all reasoning,
seek to understand the needs, not wants,
and those pieces will fall into place
in a spectrum of a far broader perspective.
Acceptance is a saving grace,
a placater of the pain we put ourselves through
in pursuing our wants or will, an ego plight,
when life has other plans, to be instilled,
whether we understand or not.
What stays in life
is to be appreciated for all it does,
in supporting our growth and learning,
in keeping the equilibrium
of our emotions and thinking.
What is sorely lost and regretted,
is of no further use,
so wasting time on mourning it, is pointless,
acceptance our minds freeing,
our souls needing.
Learning to flow with life is never easy,
as it often compromises our ego,
and that sting is necessary in understanding humility,
and the movement of circumstance
within our unique journey.
