By the End of This Sweet Ride

By the End of This Sweet Ride
By the End of This Sweet Ride

How far have I come, how long my travail,
to stand before the shadow of myself,
and attest my joys and failures,
and in the echoes of past I hear my ancestors,
what is innate within, the paths of right and sin
that preceded me,
the foundation of my learning soul,
the pathways of my seeing.

I have but come along this journey
to aspire to better, to bear the weight of failure
and to know the potential I have within,
and past the sins of my wrath,
the joys of my loving heart,
I begin to fathom the whole,
the endless universe and the toll we must pay,
as we learn the truths of our mistakes.

I sit upon a mountain high,
the horizon so very far away,
yet I see so much from here:
I see the paths of others, some straight,
others so meandering with fear, their pain is rife,
and somehow I know the answers to their broken lives,
but it has been through pain and is still
that I have carried this burden of truth.

How far I have come,
yet so small my journey to now,
so far must I go to realize the dream, the peace,
when life is filled with disharmony,
and I still filled with doubt,
how many lives will it take to sort me out,
but I shall not dispel the path,
each step the aftermath of lessons learned.

Always facing forward
is a far better plan ‘afore the light,
than buried by the nights of discontent,
so I shall try not to compare,
to measure or despair all that time refuses to settle,
rather accept my plight,
and be thankful for the insight,
the visions far beyond myself.

Love holds this all together, and kindness
the grease of movement,
calms a restless and impatient mind
to acceptance and compliance,
and I strive to better know just who I am,
live to reflect my paradigms,
and better will I find myself,
at the end of this sweet ride.
