Through Their Eyes They Saw and Spoke

Brush strokes on a canvas,
a textured world of pristine white,
and each color added, a nuance
of all we see in life,
as colors amass and blend,
swirling, rising and falling,
the picture of a living earth amends,
quells our fears of how we perceive
this ever-changing rendering,
of humanity’s plight.
Some hues are harmonious,
blended so perfectly, bestowed,
others harsh in contrast as we witness the flow,
the ever evolving forms that question
our place and purpose, stand out,
as we observe their performance
of fine strokes in detail,
or rash impasto peaks,
touted subliminal meanings
that in heart we seek to keep.
And as the brush strokes layer
the hues of a human soul,
the colors become so subtle, so melded,
so woven with the light it holds,
and beauty suddenly in yearning,
transcends the pigments and strokes,
as reality is birthed and fostered
in the folds of human hope,
and the painting finds a purpose,
a form in which to aspire and know.
The painting of a soul is miraculous,
so vibrant, yet delicate and whole,
each aspect a myriad of the possibilities it holds,
and light appears to dance across
its textured canvas plane, as if in celebration
for its potential for love and pain,
and none can judge a painting,
for what is has or has not stored,
as every single painting is complete
for every single soul.
And so in galleries I wander,
each painting I imbibe,
the souls of the artists, still harmonious and alive,
and the strokes are so painfully emotive,
the hues so lovingly ascribed,
I am brought to tears for their passion,
their painted souls survived,
and it is such a blessing, this expression so lovingly evoked,
and I stand to hold connection,
through their eyes they saw and spoke.

Lovely verse, Tony. Some paintings draw one right into the story it expresses with each stroke. Nicely penned and a joy to read.
So pleased you enjoyed it Phyllis, yes, art is a wonderful expression of a soul and each stroke an inkling of who they are. Cheers!
Most wonderful verse. Painter paint with brushes, you with your poetic words.
Much appreciated Rasma, pleased you enjoyed it my friend. Take care.
