Those Waves, Those Endless Waves

Those Waves, Those Endless Waves
Those Waves, Those Endless Waves

Discordant waves abound,
like troops marching,
relentless lines trudging loud
in thunderous resound,
bayonets poised in bloody thirst,
as I retreat, overwhelmed
those waves profoundly incessant,
intentions apparent, and I
far less prepared to face them.

Yet they come regardless,
a cold-eyed foe of clear resolve,
and what do I have to do, fight,
draw blood to prove my worth,
as life pursues my kind relenting,
trying to awaken my commending
a violent response,
when I’m too attuned to the silence
of my inner sanctum.

Some waves wash over me
with futile process, others drag me under,
but I put them on my scales
and deal with them in light of their measure,
observe, learn, glean and concern for them
fades as they retreat,
no more hold can they have
as I milk them sweet,
until they can give no more.

They occasionally pound upon my door,
demanding this and that,
and I know their knocks of frustration,
and kindly let them stew,
their ultimate resignation sends them home,
and I smile for I know,
they cannot task my heart,
when I have followed due process
from the very start.

Those waves of life are just waves,
no doomsday parade,
just the discombobulating effects
of shocking us into change,
when we refuse to rearrange our thoughts,
when we truly aught,
and I have learned if nothing else, to comply,
learn and don’t ask why,
when I know what’s best for me.

Tis good to know yourself and what is best for you. The unwanted and ‘un-asked for’ does keep pounding at us like waves and a strong spirit, good heart, can see it through with aplomb. Well done, Tony. Great work, dear poet.
