Run, Run to Stay

Run, run, into the setting sun,
past where time is done
and beginnings are just passing thoughts,
not aught to be,
where one light in darkness,
confessed in proclamation
is an inclination to see the new;
or maybe let the dead pass,
lay in dark moist earth
but last beyond their last thoughts,
delivered to some impasse of state,
there to sate the misgivings
of their earthly fate.
Run, run from the frenzied time
spun in web like strands,
commands of duplicity each rung,
dragging us down
into a mire of complicity,
and death sees not our authenticity,
just a passing flesh to dust’s null,
crusted to seal eternity’s soul,
once seen never whole;
find me a place to invigorate
this beaten flesh,
running to or from remiss
of any worth.
My heart says stay,
my souls says allay my fears,
and time allows some refrain
to experience the days
of light and growth,
an oath taken to endure,
premature my escape from
this my cage,
hand forged by my own,
and own I must attest,
the limitation I’ve so wisely invested;
if only the transition was easy,
the truth not squeezing me breathless.
Run, run from the elusive self,
not one I’d recommend,
commend for a leaf of sanity
in life’s unwavering tree,
rooted in earth’s magnitude,
its enduring I cannot see the sky,
but that is I,
trying to envision all,
stand tall in its shadow,
when all I want is to be at its top,
the horizon I venture to see willingly,
and accept its cycles,
life and death, rise and fall, my plea.

Interesting and slightly different style for you, Tony. And I like your random rhyme. It is a pleasure to follow you on your journey through life. I really enjoyed this piece.
Glad you enjoyed it Phyllis, always stretching the parameters, trying the new. Take care.
