Learn We Can and Must

Where I fall, a shadow remains,
to remind me of the reality
that stormed my gates,
and the causality that in hope
I choose to remember,
to know I am but a cinder of a flame
from an eternal fire,
as I in malaise proclaim my place,
when I am but a passing space,
a glint of time, maligned by ineptness.
Living long enough
my shadows would cover earth,
memories too amassed to have importance,
instead I let go and look to future,
less addled by my sour mistakes,
so at least I can walk
without treading upon my falling ways,
days long passed and lessons learned,
discerned to be my growing turn,
a better side of me.
A better way perhaps,
to value the shadow I cast upon my feet,
still enduring and maybe the future me
will smile with glee
to know I am better than before,
my face upright in the light,
rather than face down in the mire
I have come to know,
intimate my knowledge of the mud
I so acknowledged, was bestowed.
I fall less these days,
buts its all perception,
my connection better than before,
knowing what will work and what will not,
guides a sounder path, to restore
the old ideals I once ignored,
when self came first,
a thirst for place and purpose,
that in the end I already had,
and sad the conclusion, the delusion I abhor.
Now I cast a strong shadow,
and it follows me wherever I go,
no wilting reminder, as before,
today I’m much kinder
and I hold on to all the gleaned truths I know,
as falling is just a prompt to get back up,
to accept the stall and know
we’re not all we thought we were,
lost to our ego’s blur,
but learn we can and must.

Yes, learn we can and must. You have come a long way, Tony, and it is remarkable how you take all the falls with the steps forward as lessons learned. Great work as always. Take care dear poet.
Glad you appreciated it Phyllis. Thank you for your unwavering support. Take care.
Wonderfully said. Yes, we can learn and we must never stop learning. Nicely penned.
Thanks Rasma, glad you enjoyed it. Take care.
