Where in Sunshine it Rains

When can wrong become right in a mind of reason,
coerced by a form of blindness called avarice,
when justification is just the seed of ego,
a violation of every innate morality shown?
And so many fall to their darkness,
believe in gain as a reason to relent on right,
a spiteful turn around in plight
as the world changes from light to shadow.
Are we so shallow as to reverse all we know,
just for some paltry advantage,
a sacrifice of our integrity, our honor,
for one bauble, a disenfranchised show?
What are we missing if we so stray from our roots,
to allow ourselves to fall so completely,
over such unworthy truths,
and become a being without foundation?
What happened to credibility,
when how we appeared was based on truth, not fabrication,
the elation of self-interest a provocation of reality,
to then be honed to a lies perfection.
So demeaned this world, that competition
and rivalry has created an ethic of corruption,
any way to achievement an assumption held by our youth
having been modeled by today’s tenuous truth.
Are we but the Gomorrah of biblical times,
a culture headed for damnation,
having become the mind and soul of corruption
in a slow and downward direction?
I fear for my children, lost within the vortex of change,
vilification of religion, culture, race and creed
but a common thread feigned in justifying rhetoric,
and we, taught to hate based on superficial difference.
Love has somehow been lost, for its worth, for what it is,
unknown by capricious and sex-crazed hedonists,
who seek pleasure to escape the reality of responsibility,
any kind of credibility in a waning society.
Morality was once a guiding light,
the parameters of a equitable life,
but a simple line to cross, a loss prepared for a comforting gain,
in a self-serving world, where in sunshine, it rains.

Humanity has lost so very much in this world. I find it hard to realize we are not living in some kind of sci-fi or horror movie. The reality is just so hard to believe. Very well penned work and so true. Take care Tony.
Pleased you enjoyed the piece Phyllis. Have a great day, or evening I should say.
Most expressive and true to life poetry.
Thanks Rasma, glad you appreciated the work. Take care.
