The Simplicity of Life and Death

The Simplicity of Life and Death
The Simplicity of Life and Death

Fleeting those breathes we take,
numbered in a finite time we are taken,
life ends and heart forsaken
as we leave all we have loved and valued in life;
and so in those last waning breathes,
what do we think: regret, the loss bemoaned,
or does the journey just swallow us whole
as we float away to the next facet
of our soul’s learning.

No pain in death, they say,
just the spirit leaving, vacating
the vessel that has served us well,
and in that moment, we are free,
from the binds of physical suffering,
and as we rise a joyous heart still holds,
the love immersed within the soul,
as new adventures await, unfold
in another realm.

For now, in life, we accept,
this fate an unerring truth,
and so I shall not neglect each day,
each breath a numbered countdown
to an inevitable day for change,
a brief transition on an endless journey,
an energy of the eternal spark
that marks our soul, our purpose,
in learning and ascendancy.

Each breath a lesson, each moment a thought,
and every sense the learning,
all the heart can store in love’s ardor,
and not one will pass us by, if we are in tune,
with every opportunity, every sight:
a moon rise, a gloaming,
a leaf, a bloom in colored joy,
a cloud passing by,
as we in life presume nothing.

The cycles go on, life and death
and rise and fall we must,
as transitions are just changes, nothing more,
as sentient minds seek sustenance,
knowing our trade in hand,
as a heart yields to life and a soul grows,
facets of a whole to be reunited
when we approach our epitome
and beside our creator, we finally rest.

This is a beautiful verse, Tony. Life and death, a transition, change, cycles – this is how I see life and you express it so well. We live and die to one life, then continue on to the next, and so on, till we reach that perfection in the eyes of the creator and in our own spirit, and there we are in peace for all eternity. I don’t just believe in many lifetimes, I know it is true from receiving messages from my father through my grandson. Life is precious, eternity is peace. Great work, dear friend.

Thank you so much Phyllis, yes this what I believe: there can be no cessation, just transition, energy, sentience, life. Cheers!
