The Railway of My Mind

Lines like rails meandering off into the distance,
carriages of words in contiguous flow,
exacting meanings, phrases of poetic intention,
an esoteric invention to uplift and sew
my seeds of thought.
I am the crossing, where rails intersect,
each one pleading an artistic release,
as thoughts form and phrases ensue,
the heart’s expression
my poetic ascension renewed.
Here, wherever I look, in all directions,
rails fan out to horizons, and as they meet
the crossing, I cannot disavow their needs,
as words clutter at the threshold, amass like train-wrecks,
I hurry to save them, piece their phrases for relief,
And still the gloaming never arrives,
daylight yields light enough to write,
my lines never-ending, depending on my fuel,
as I redact and subtract, whittle and deliver
words of my passion and obscure views.
I drive not these trains, I simply carriage their words,
and send them off to who knows what,
a world to judge them for all they were,
in echoes of their sounding,
and I oblivious and never deterred.
I guess the engine of that train is my heart,
delivering every word to peace,
expressed, articulated and released to allow me to continue,
to accept this inner venue is mine,
as I write away the time.
Dream I do of rail lines,
words rattling upon those metal tracks,
and phrases come and go in sentient flow,
even in my dreams they seem to know,
I will always listen to their facts.
Yet I yearn for those soft white clouds above,
indiscriminate thoughts and indolent words of relenting,
when those rails cease clattering in my mind,
and silence agrees in kind,
as I rest from the poetic life I lead.

An absolutely wonderful poetic journey. Love that last verse.
So pleased you enjoyed it Rasma. Take care.
Nice journey down the track of a truly poetic mind my friend. I especially love the line I oblivious and never deterred. In the end you are the judge, their views matter not, just as long as they travel the rails and accept the ride. Excellent piece my friend.
Thanks Paul, I agree, in the end its we who challenge ourselves, honing this art to an infinite degree and hopefully gracing the minds of our readers. Cheers!
