The Paradigm of Greed

The Paradigm of Greed
The Paradigm of Greed

Truth to greed is a circular journey,
a cycle of repetitive actions,
because chasing greener pastures is never-ending,
never can there be a sustainable reward,
as ‘more’ becomes a paradigm,
and the moment never satisfied,
just swollen with the yearning for better,
a better that may come but never recognized.

So many invest in this striving,
where happiness is dependent upon
a future that never arrives,
yet the cycle never stops,
the process never acknowledged,
for greed is a disease of monumental scope,
a festering that in search of happiness
just echoes in hopes of tomorrows rewards.

Greed is a false god, an entrapment of the mind,
sealed from reality it binds us to horizons,
always bearing gifts and an illusive happiness,
yet when morning comes a new horizon is seen,
one day apart a better seed for self,
and so it goes in endless rhyme,
as time whittles away our lives
as we never find happiness, just strive.

In life, the physical pleasures are fleeting,
and happiness a meeting
of expectations and appreciation for all we have,
and betterment is worth our focus,
but it can never make us happy,
never give life a lasting purpose,
because the heart is all that matters,
love and relationships the prized gift.

The purpose of life has been lost,
replaced by a superficial need for selfish fulfillment,
based on wealth, status, power and appearance,
all irrelevant in a soul seeking growth,
as it is not what we do but how we do it that defines us,
and the heart is where we learn,
kindness what we need to journey life,
compassion in understanding, our guide.

Striving for the wrong things just placates our true journey,
an aspiring soul gleaning experience
to better understand our potential,
and wealth matters little,
just a different circumstance in which to learn,
comfort is a choice, a valid choice,
but not the focus of a soul
and not something that makes us happy in any way,
that is simply our choice to make, regardless.

Great work, Tony – a good life lesson indeed. I understand your words of wisdom, because sometimes I falter and give in to fear of the unknown. Yet, I get through the bad moments of uncertainty and find that this moment is what truly counts, so I have faith in myself and go forward, knowing it will work out. Sometimes I turn to someone I fully trust and I can express, then receive moral support from a kind loving soul and stand back up. It really gives me courage and strength. Greed is never a part of me. Wonderful and very helpful work here, Tony. Cheers!
