The Manipulations of the Common Thief

The Manipulations of a Common Thief
The Manipulations of a Common Thief

Dispassionate pleas assail a heart,
after propagating such an ambiguous start,
as cold-eyed judgement lingers, imparts,
a tenuous purpose at best.

How wily such manipulative minds,
enacting some case in kind,
to render disaster and gifts maligned,
just because they can.

They emerge in plain light,
their covert will an outstanding plight,
and to me they yield to my intuitive bite,
that will bring them back from fantasy.

They are malicious wolves in human skin,
their sins akin to all they’ve ever been,
and I know them well, their minds unhinged
to bring down any quarry.

Dangerous in their flaunts and guile,
a never-ending supercilious smile,
and every point and explanation does rile
every instinct I have.

So I have learned to not buy into this ruse,
the lies so flowing they think they cannot lose,
when they hook a victim its no excuse,
for what happens after that.

In advantage gained they storm the gates,
circumstances to preen and manipulate,
for what they want is to propagate
their wealth or status at our expense.

Be it theft or favor, sex or savior,
they create the perfect digested flavor,
just for self-benefit all tailored,
to our part in aiding them.

Then when they’re done,
the play all played out, completed, won,
and we some loss no doubt the sum,
of all that we have given.

And they, all words and deeds complete,
their caper ensued all bitter sweet,
just walk away as if to meet
some other fool to foster.

I cringe every time I see the word ‘covert’ – reminds me of one who used my friendship to manipulate me and others. Nicely penned piece on thieves who steal that which could never belong to them. Well done, Tony.

Much appreciated Phyllis, the world is unfortunately filled with them, and I keep well and truly clear. Cheers!
