The Knowing in Our Heart

There are no more prompts
to vision life through another’s eyes,
than truth spelled out in honesty,
and behold we may the simplicity of understanding,
yet it does not elude to realization
from someone else’s perspective.
Our sight, our reality is premised by our beliefs,
our experience and the lessons learned
during life’s path, but that is only half the problem,
when wants and desires are rampant,
desperately seeking love’s embrace
and the soul restored to a shared autonomy.
Love is a powerful emotion,
much sought and valued in life,
for we need to share our lives and thoughts,
form a secure bond that gives meaning to existence,
beyond that acceptance of self,
and in that pursuit we may lose balance.
In reality, fantasy love and romanticism
represents our pursuit of partnership, procreation and protection,
the emotional foundation of a meaningful life,
but as that love fades it is replaced by far deeper feelings,
like respect, kindness, compassion, support and nurture,
beyond the physical and broader in spectrum.
This spiritual love takes much time to grow and honour,
and for some it is the most enriching experience of life,
far greater than any other measure,
yet for others they seek the romance, that first love feeling
that fades with each relationship in time,
and thus their road is never-ending.
The fantasy is far greater than reality,
unless we find that one soul connection
that lasts and grows, our true desire;
yet few are those who find it in measure,
an equality of giving in two soul’s surrender,
both with unerring intent.
In age we lose our attraction,
because our time is done: for procreation,
raising a family and being productive in life,
yet after that is all done, maybe having lost a partner,
we may still seek that feeling, that sweet release in love,
that in most circumstances will not and cannot arise.
Accepting age and the phases in life that come with it,
is not an easy surrender,
and love becomes a universal love, an appreciation for life,
what has been and nurtured our soul,
and the time we have left to reflect and enjoy
what we have learned and experienced in our growing.
Wisdom we have hopefully earned,
in all our joy and pain and the reality of what love is,
profoundly held in our hearts
and expressed through those we love
and anyone who will listen to our thoughts;
this is just the cycle of life.
Love is eternal in its presence, if we have an open heart,
and although romance is a wonderful part of love,
it is gently replaced with a far higher perspective,
and if one embraces it, the joy of life just keeps coming
and our understanding keeps us warm at night,
as gratification is not always about the self,
it is a knowing in our heart.
