In the Real World…

Back in the real world,
where fish are irradiated
to tumorous malformation,
and seas are dying, warmed up,
littered, unclean and
crying tears too salty,
relying on we, humanity
to turn it all around;
while in fantasy land we are:
reducing pollution,
not dumping poisonous chemicals
in waters of abundant life,
and not poisoning ourselves
as we over-fish resources
to the point of no return;
and still, few contribute
to the solution, a restitution
that will come at great cost,
when our precious seas are lost.
And what of the air we breathe,
so polluted with CO2,
that blue just turns to grey,
and strewn everywhere
the remnants of our gluttony,
the plastics that takes
thousands of years to break down,
and nowhere to meet the profound
need for placement,
for dealing with our refuse,
not in the earth,
tainting everything,
but across the natural world,
like festering sores upon skin,
and manufacture just
keeps spewing chemicals
into the once pristine skies,
until we can no longer breath
and nature itself suffocates.
And what of the land,
so farmed to depletion,
no nutrients left but
the chemicals used to replace them,
as we eat tampered food,
hormones and additives,
synthetic flavors
and preservatives
that will no doubt
turn carcinogenic,
as we ingest so much of it
to keep up with our
swollen populations,
our demanding obligations
to those of wealth, their prosperity
and future the concern,
where the rest of us eat what we’re given,
and take drugs to make
us forget our woes,
and as we become ill,
more drugs at great cost will
surely fix and sew the seeds
of our decline,
all earning money for the chosen few,
while the planet sits
at the edge of abyss.
I’ll stop writing now,
I feel depressed….

It is depressing indeed. Isn’t it odd that humanity destroys the abundance of nature’s natural foods then tries to return to the ways of the ancients who lived on natural herbs, roots, and plants, etc. Humanity pollutes the air then spends billions of $ to purify our homes and businesses, spends more on medicines to help with lung diseases. Humanity destroys the seas then creates fish farms for “fresh fish”. Is there no end to stupidity? Still, I hope for a better world and that your work reaches more and more people and that I, too, can help by writing with similar messages like yours. Great work, Tony.
Much appreciated Phyllis, it is a travesty, the ignorance and stupidity of the human race, cutting of our own survival by greed. Glad you appreciated the thoughts. Cheers!
