Food of the Gods…a Preparation of Love

Food of the gods,
heart woven into every bite,
where love blesses with passion
each flavor an afferent delight,
as a kind hand in preparation
gives food such goodness,
such superlative nutrition
despite anything else,
and joy in sharing marks a chef
who truly gives of themselves,
the food in itself just a passage
for the heart.
Home cooking is a memory stoic,
my grandmothers baked dinners,
each Sunday a treat;
my mothers inventiveness,
her efforts never fell
on an unappreciative pallet,
and every morsel imbibed
with a pleasured smile,
and gratitude for the learning,
to know her secret,
the care that went in came out
in the most delicious ways.
And in her footsteps I have followed,
I have always cooked for family
and still do, to pass on mother’s heart
and let taste impart such glorious hues,
textures and flavors so new
to test our threshold in experience,
and the pleasure of giving freely
and accepting food, a delight,
this daily ritual my duty and joy of giving,
serving those I love
in the simplicity of an evening meal,
a gesture of humble sharing.
When guest experience this aspect of family,
they rejoice as we in the festivity,
of love shared,
of food in the embrace of all
it should be:
high in flavor, nutrition
and life force, guided so eloquently
to each plate and soul,
in the profound sharing of food;
and it is a blessing I know this truth,
for love woven so selflessly into food,
is a panacea for all ills.

My roots are Italian so right off the bat I love good food, and homecooked meals were always my favorite. The sauce bubbling away for hours in an old worn out pot.. it added to the flavor. Lol. You knew in that was more than just some garden ingredients, you knew it came from the heart every diced onion or crushed tomato or well layered noodle. This was a beautiful tribute to that love of food. Nice work Tony.
Yes Italians know very well what I’m talking about here. I love Italy. Spent a few months travelling all over that beautiful country back in 2013 and absolutely fell in love with the place. Food has always been important to me and I still cook for family every day, and as my mother, weaving love into every bite. Thanks my friend, and take care Paul, your work here is so valued and appreciated.
