Consequence, the Answer, Even When We Asked No Question at All

Consequence is the shadow of reality’s candor,
and no matter our take, our assumptions,
there is no escaping its impartial claws,
seizing our consciousness that can’t be ignored
and often shaking it to sense,
an unrelenting and vested assault.

Attest it may the process of cause and effect,
yet more, the learning of our actions in flow,
whether reward or recompense,
consequence is the answer, even when
we asked no questions at all,
so acceptance is a truth we must face.

Each thought and action is its calling card,
as if a specter overhead, waiting,
and we can ignore it, regale it
or simply fear its connection,
but regardless it follows us surely,
and in learning it becomes an expectation.

A sagacious soul welcomes it,
for on it we rely to attain our goals,
and in acceptance wear it when we fail,
but we must always account for it,
our path in life strewn with the skeletons of old,
when consequence became our harshest lessons.

Each machination an outcome,
a game we’ve played,
and with it the circumstances, beyond blame
yet following the effects of intention,
and mistakes are an invention of learning,
some hurt, some enlightening in experience.

It is just the process of thought and action,
movement and effect as it collides
with life and others,
and in knowing, an opportunity
to consider before we act impulsively or in hast,
understanding what could erase our wants.

In retrospect we so often regret
our thoughts and actions,
knowing how difficult the consequences
that followed, the deficit of mistakes and rash decisions,
woven within this journey of learning,
discerning our righteous path of growth.
