A Thanksgiving on a Secluded Beach (2018)

So thankful that I am on this beach front….

1.

So thankful that I am on this beach front

where animal paws outnumber our feet

where slightly off shore the trees take their seat

where water ripples make the branches blunt.

Where mountaintop has touched the flight of sky

and  lake gull float upon seasonal flow

the pine still green through the fresh fallen snow.

So thankful for the fishermen nearby

as dog walks side by side without a leash.

My mind moves from the mountaintop to shore,

to footsteps fallen into softened sand.

An original scene before pastiche,

a scene that only leaves me wanting more.

To leave my spirit here upon the land.

2.

So thankful for the snow not melted here

where I sit upon this park bench on beach.

To feel the sunlight slightly out of reach

anxiety has left along with fear.

So thankful for the boot tracks on the trail

as dog slows taking an extended scent

where once a person walked where they had meant

their timely tracks like postage in the mail.

To pull dogs leash as a couple walks by

their hands entwined as if they were the sage

to make more tracks with each well timed new step.

The wind blows cold as if a sudden sigh,

our stories told in rustles, page by page,

as we carefully plan our overstep.

3.

So thankful for a cup of warm coffee

to wrap my hands around and feel the warmth

before I start the car and journey forth

I wonder what the day will bring to see.

I am thankful for this moments respite

a chance to get lost in the morning dew,

this snowy piece of land where crabgrass grew,

where action does not seem so desperate.

To know that all of this may fade in time

to be replaced with springs intense color

when flowers bloom along the side of trail.

To know that nature will repeat this rhyme

and every year we will take our place in lore,

to catch the last patch of snow without fail.

Beautifully penned and expressed, the natural word in harmony and the joy of its appreciation. Filled with great imagery as the seasons turn and cycles reinvent themselves. Great work Jamie.
