A Just Path Amid the Storm

Clear skies amid the storm,
an effort of no-compliance I can’t ignore,
as the world tightens its belt,
the ever bulging stomach felt,
filled with inequity,
the rotting corpses of dignity
and the waste so frivolously caste aside,
cannot coincide with sustainability,
thus the storm, the curse
we of humanity sworn to uphold
in blatant greed.
Nature engaged, on the back foot,
incurring pain and balance to sustain
the ever-leaking ruse of the status quo,
maligned beyond a point of return,
the recompense set in motion,
the devotion of earth in defense,
to uphold its own and to hold us back
from what we are doing,
pursuing our own selfish agendas,
and disregarding life itself,
all for an arrogant belief.
I ponder the blue sky,
the peaceful wind in tune with clouds,
and wonder how long before
storms are all there is,
and darkness reigns in bloated dark refrains,
as earth cracks under strain,
imbalance an ongoing pain,
and we upon its very life,
suffering the recompense of our lives,
lived too well, too opulently,
when we, at the expense of earth, hurt.
Each day I imbibe what life means,
from a simple blade of grass to birds in flight
and open skies at sunrise to infinity,
and each breath a gift of borrowed time,
as we in populations growing, keep starving,
warring and contending,
keep demanding equity when there is none,
just the machinery of gain and control,
the whole gamut
of what we’ve sold to ourselves
as a just path.

T’is a great sadness to see nature pushed back further and further each year. People with money buy property where nature has been cleared by big construction companies. They build their beautiful homes then complain when wild animals come into their yards and eat from the beautiful gardens and then demand something be done about it. Wild horses are being pushed further and further from us for new highways and business parks, many are run to pens, or to death, by helicopters herding them, many of the horses are sold to Mexico for butchering. Flora and fauna are disappearing at an alarming rate, throwing everything out of balance. You know, Tony, I would love to trek far into the wilderness, on a mountain, find a cave by a lake, and live in nature, write every day, till I die in peace – giving my body and bones back to Earth as my spirit soars. Excellent work on the world upsetting natural balance and harmony, Tony. Take care.
Much appreciated Phyllis, it is so sad that humanity so disregards the natural order and selfishly does exactly what it wants. There is a price to pay, though. Cheers!
