The Clouded, Hooded, Eclipsed and Somber Mind

The Mind …challenge accepted

mind

The mind is often clouded by a pale, ebony fog,

Confined to lonely houses derailed by brevity’s bog

To find that counted scales are close to symmetry’s log

designed so that balance prevails through empathy’s cog.

Though mantled by emotions and eclipsed by disdain

It ambles with devotion, affixed by its blame

In shambles it has moments in resisting the strain

and channels so ferocious that it transfixes rain.

The motives are still obscured in somber disbelief

With roses to allure to the conquered self-esteem

The chosen mind is contoured and saunters through its weeds

to notice all the pure forms and not so proper treats

But hooded in the cortex behind synoptic joy

The bullets pierce the fortress and blind the logic toy.

Then flooded by the context, defines this toxic boy

how crooked then and complex his mind’s panoptic ploy.

The coin is ever flipping in black and white regards

Rejoined by clever whipping of preplanned fight remarks

Purloined endeavors missing put back in flights and sparks

anointed by the blessing to backtrack smitten hearts.

The memoirs and emotions, are clouded by the bane

A crowbar to reopen the dark and hooded main

A sidecar and a potion, confounding for the blame

In bags of Mylar, broken, put down and boxed away

In elegy and sermon we mourn the rite of day

The empathy of learning the born in plight was slayed

The legacy of service the forlorn mind displayed

So heavily the curtains adorn the light today.

The moments when the focus was blighted by the blaze

The focus that was broken ignited when engaged

Atonement in the moments was slighted by the ways

The chosen choice of motive was guided by the rage

And in that darkness burning, the common sense we’ve clad

Catharsis undeserving the recompense we have

If we harken to the yearnings in consciousness we staff

If tarnished is the learning, then providence holds laughs.

Ah, the workings of the mind, an enigma of expression amid a rational playing field and we never a prodigy but a whipping post for our own ineptitude. Love this one Paul, such great phrasing and imagery and thought-provoking. Cheers!
