Seek Not Security, But Possibility

Sometimes the stillness is portending change,
often an iniquitous foreshadowing of a future set,
a troubled vetting of the status quo,
to raise the foundations and throw away the refuse,
all in the name of progression,
whether we find it so, or not.
Sometimes storms manifest
when least we expect them,
in comfort of complacency and settled,
we find disruption and complain,
yet what change brings is needed,
heeded from our soul’s planned gleaning.
Stagnancy is like slow growing moss,
weighing us down and eventually covered,
we cannot see reality at all,
rather the clockwork movements of repetitive routines
lost within the maze of possibility,
an inevitability of stormy weather.
When life plays our hand, we are without choice,
dragged into the vortex of change
because we would not accept its need,
and therefore at its mercy of movement,
often more harsh that if we’d chosen,
if we’d faced the truth to abide the plan.
Often change seems almost cruel,
torn from the safety of our security,
but there is no security in life,
and change inevitable in its ensuing;
so contending with it is pointless and inhibiting,
creating suffering in our ignorance.
The flow of life is irrefutable,
it has a way of movement we should recognize,
for swimming against the tide is futile,
and in our surrender to it, our full acceptance,
we open more doors that it proffers,
opportunities not considered in our dreams.
Life is an adventure if we accept its promise,
and we gain nothing without risk,
the unknown but a step of learning,
so seek not security in life,
rather acknowledge the strength and possibility of self,
faith in a soul destined for great things.

So well penned, Tony. This sure opens my eyes – I am in the process of accepting the household move I will be making next month. I grew complacent about where I live now. It was not in mind I would be moving from here after so many years, I felt secure here. To flow with life is what works for me, but this upcoming move brought up some before unknown thoughts about my future and where I go from here – too much is in limbo. Your words of wisdom will help me see it through. Great work, my dear friend.
It is unsettling, especially as we get older. Believe it or not, the negative remnants of my move are still inhibiting life to some degree. We simply cannot hold onto past and the easier we accept change the better the circumstance will be. My thoughts are with you Phyllis, as I know what a pain it can be. One word of advice: when you move, try to get boxes unpacked as soon as possible, because if they hang around it does not let the new unfold as it should. Bits of old circumstances and problems just linger. We’re just about right now, but its taken over six weeks of frustration. Cheers!
Oh! Thank you so much for that advice, Tony, and your thoughts for me. I can see how right you are about unpacking. Take care. x
