Secrets Held in Fear

Find that elusive thought,
the one you’re too scared to even ponder,
’cause it’s more than wonder,
more than a secret to reveal,
more than a joy revered,
a truth you just cannot face;
and yet you fear it in its invisibility,
an affinity to its stark ramifications
if ever surface cured,
and in this quandary you struggle,
knowing it is immanent,
understanding the instrument of its purpose,
but still you persist in denial,
a style you’ve perfected.
Oh the pain we face in our denial,
our pig-headed refusals to face ourselves,
as truth just hovers like some specter,
and we, head under covers, shaking,
so narrow our thoughts,
tethered to an earthy simplicity,
a blissful ignorance posed
at the expense of reality,
when truth could well find us released,
free within possibility,
yet we keep dodging that one thought,
that one defining fact
that we cannot abide,
and without common sense, despise.
Looking in the mirror must be difficult,
each day to face a lie, a fear incumbent,
so deeply set within, it overrides the obvious,
the capability of a being in refusal of clarity,
in fear of a monster grown to unreality,
so irrational yet palpable in scope,
that life cannot be the same again
if this one thought persists,
and we under its weight
cannot desist, the world
upon our shoulders,
all for the want of secrets held,
even from ourselves.

Such a fear is hard to face and may not go away until we voice it to our self and confront it, look it straight in the eye, and watch it shrink to nothing. It is like walking on the dark side – we need to accept it is there then gently let it go in peace. Emotive and powerful phrasing Tony.
Thanks Phyllis, glad you appreciated the work dear friend. Take care.
