Save these wild mustangs

Save these wild mustangs …

Pryor Mountain Wild Mustangs

So thus we come to live out the end of our lives
in pastures of solitude or not and amid the lengthy hours
Though we share visions  travails  and troubles
perhaps we wonder if that highway was ever truly ours

Did we really go there did we stand gently beside the wildness
and sigh deeply and sigh often
Gazing longingly at the distant mountains
while at our feet life lay earthly and softened

Yes we were there my love and when he raised his
regal eyes and gazed back at our wonder
We knew right at that moment in time
that it was man who made the blunder

No we must save these wild mustangs  these faithful cousins
to the one they called Cloud
We must act now to save them today
yelling at the top of our lungs so loud

And when we grow old ourselves  we begin
to falter and we too will stumble
We will look back at our memories yours and mine
and our calloused hearts may yet beat slow and humble

Yes …. yes he did all that he could do .

For Dayton Hyde .

Editor’s Note

Many thanks to Ed Fisher for writing this poem. The wild horses are near and dear to my heart. We drive around the county often to find and watch them. They are a beautiful, heart-warming icon of Nevada and many other states. To learn about Cloud: Wild Stallion of the Rockies and watch the video is something you will always remember. It is a wonderful and memorable story that will touch your heart and soul. Please, as Ed says, we must do something now to save these beautiful horses.

You can join the National Wild Horse Association to help save an American icon.

Sometime in my life, I started to write about my life journey, or in poetry, in story perhaps to sort out the missing from the found perhaps and enter them into a place of safekeeping. The soul of the writer is perhaps best described in their own words, emotions and thoughts. If these poems or stories touch something inside you then maybe I have succeeded in sharing. I will not write about my self in profile, because self isn't so important in writing. Only the journey in words and the sharing are important. Why would we say "Now about me!"... I'd rather write about life, nature, serenity ...

Ed, you have captured my heart with this poem – I have goose bumps on my arms and tears flowing down my cheeks. Your poem is lovely. Many thanks, my dear friend, for writing this touching tribute to the wild horse and to Dayton. Great work, great indeed kind sir. Take care.
