Rocks Have Little to Offer

Those who are able to see, respond,
those who are blind, oblivious,
like trying to teach a rock to think,
if someone isn’t ready to see reality
a rock has a greater chance to learn.
The world is filled with rocks,
some share nature’s beauty in landscape,
the others just weighted stone,
and no matter how we encourage them,
they remain so.
Ever talk to a rock,
in the end a one-way conversation,
and as far as imagination, ideas,
I think not, just a silent ambivalence given,
and we, foolish for any expectation?
If all the rocks we knew,
sat aside and on top of each other,
we could build a wall, at least something useful,
and in doing so give purpose
to unwilling life.
The difference between investment
and futile expectation,
is choosing an adept mind rather than a rock,
for rocks although having mastered stillness,
they still can’t decide.
I love to be with souls willing to think,
to reason their plight
and discover both faults and solutions
to life’s complex issues,
and then to watch them flourish.
I like to throw stones skimming across the water,
perhaps an experience of profound epiphany
for the stone, who knows,
but movement must surely change a life,
resting on the laurels of stillness.
Rocks and stones can break my bones,
but only if an intentional mind
picks them up and throws them,
so after much consideration,
I have decided that rocks have little to offer.

I like to paint flowers and birds on little rocks. Your verse is powerfully expressed, Tony. Well done.
Thanks Phyllis, glad you enjoyed my tangent. Cheers!
