The Colors of My World
Towards a new beginning …
White was the color of my world,
when I first saw it,
clean and pure –
no anger or fear.
Sunny yellow was the color of my world,
full of childhood joy,
when why was the question of the day
and love followed me all around.
Green was the color of my world,
throughout my school years,
learning and yearning –
to know who the world goes round.
Gray was the color of my world,
when I learned that parting is sweet sorrow,
that life is not forever
and tears can fall like rain.
Rosy pink was the color of my world,
when youth was in full bloom,
when every cloud had a silver lining
and my heart full of dreams.
Blue was the color of my world,
as the years went on,
when I learned about life’s harsh reality
and knew it would be an uphill battle.
Deep red was the color of my world,
when love came into it,
when things settled into their places
and my heart was full.
Now as I’ve reached the middle of life’s road,
golden is the color of my world,
where my days are spent in contentment
and each day lived to the fullest.
Where rosy red is the color of each sunrise,
telling me of another wonderful day,
of new promises and hopes
and dreams of tomorrow.
Where purple is the color of twilight,
as another day draws to an end,
bringing quiet peace
and time to say thanks for letting me be part of it all.
When my time on earth will be done,
my colors will fade to black
and explode into a brilliant rainbow,
somewhere beyond the stars –
my soul flying towards a new beginning.
