River Of Tears

River of Tears

We all have regrets in life which feed the river of tears. When someone passes away that you have had a difficult relationship even though you always have loved that person is when the regrets and the river of tears have the strongest current. I have learned that time is an ancient enemy that takes no prisoners. We always think we have the time to make amends to those that mean the most to us in our lives. In the end when they are taken from us those arguments that seemed so looming in the background in reality become small bumps in the road. Lesson learned, hopefully.

River Of Tears
Traveling down the lost path of memory lane,
Trying to understand is driving me insane.

Walking and trying to dodge all the pain,
No blue sky, or a warm sun, just the black torrent of rain.

On this silent day – misery is my only companion,
No highs, just the bottom of an emotional canyon.

Footing is slippery as I come to the only crossroad,
To the left of me is where the river of tears flow.

On my right is all the bridges that have been burned,
Not willing to turn around – I face straight ahead and unturned.

Behind me is the place – the room that you just passed away,
Now thinking of all the words I just didn’t know how to say.

Hope your wounded soul finds some inner peace for this final day,
As the white winged angels came and took you away.

The bridges on my right of course cannot be crossed anymore,
In my despair, I can still smell the smoke and hear the flames roar.

Can’t go back – can’t go right – all that is left is the river of tears.
Wondering if I still have it in me to stay afloat is one of my fears.

Kurt James

The rugged beauty of the Colorado Rockies foothills shaped Kurt James’ life from birth, with the ever-present sight of snow-capped peaks and the constant whisper of the wind. Having spent twenty years amidst the wide-open spaces of South Dakota, Kurt’s connection to his family’s western Kansas heritage remains strong; he recalls the tallgrass prairie and the endless blue skies. Over time, Mr. James developed a deep appreciation for the landscapes and history of the American West, spending countless hours exploring its rugged beauty and studying its unique culture. The Denver Post, PM Magazine, and 9NEWS, all well-known Denver, Colorado media sources, have highlighted the powerful and evocative work of poet and novelist Kurt James. Focusing on Old West history, Kurt contributes feature articles to HubPages and Creative Exiles, exploring the eerie silence of ghost towns, the thrilling tales of outlaws and gunfighters, and the evocative imagery found in the Rocky Mountains. Kurt’s early admiration for writers such as Jack London, Louis L’Amour, and Max Brand played a significant role in honing his skills as a storyteller. Twenty-one books (and counting!) transport readers to the Colorado Rockies and the Old West through Kurt’s vivid descriptions; the feel of rough-hewn cabins, the sounds of coyotes howling under starry skies, and the smells of campfire smoke and sagebrush are all palpable. Find Kurt James novels, short stories, reference books, and poetry—published by Midnight Wind Publishing—in print copies or digital downloads at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, and other excellent bookstores; explore the diverse range of formats available. Currently in production - The 10th book in his Rocky Mountain Series - Lee Moomaw Former Lawman. Kurt is a proud member of the Western Writers of America, a group that values storytelling.

Nicely penned and so true of all the regrets we hold through life. Yet, all those lessons in life brought us here, and in a way they are the core of who we become. We should not mourn the loss but celebrate what has given us more than we had. Well done Kurt. Cheers!

Life is one big university of lessons that move us on. There are always regrets when we lose someone, yet that natural. It is when we know that each experience is a lesson, that is when we grow spiritually. Well done on this nicely penned piece, Kurt.

Kurt, everything has already been said. You never fully get over the loss of a loved one, and there are always regrets about things said or not said….but we can’t turn back time. We just need to cherish the good times we had and move forward without regret. Well written as always.
