Change, ‘Cause the Universe Cares Less

The steeper the gradient,
the more arduous the climb,
the more arduous the climb,
the steeper the gradient seems,
and so we suffer under our own perceptions,
each viewpoint the collateral of easy outcomes,
burdened by fears and expectations,
all the product of our own attitudes.
The universe could care less about our fate,
a life of ease, a life of misery, ours to determine,
yet we fall for our own misguided concerns
and break under the burdens
of our contrived beliefs,
given meaning by past and other irrelevant factors,
to muddy the waters of our thoughts
and responses to challenge.
If only we could disassociate ourselves
from expectation,
treat each challenge and circumstance anew,
I wonder how burdens would then seem,
not laden with prejudice but clean;
I’m thinking that challenge would just be another decision,
not an impasse or struggle of frustration,
but just another moment of choice
not laden with misery or suffering.
Suffering is the struggle of our perception,
taken out of context and exemplified,
and the worse we expect, the worse we get,
our thoughts the creations of circumstance,
so in simple terms, why would we be negative,
cause ourselves heartache,
when a change of viewpoint can eradicate
the pain of struggle and misery?
Misery is in our minds,
just as joy and happiness,
and the sooner we decide to be happy,
the easier life will be, as a consequence of our thinking,
so don’t bother being a martyr,
it just keeps us disconnected with reality,
become positive and let obstacles be challenges
we are happy to negotiate.
