Today I Shall Live On Purpose
Today is the day I live,
each breath on purpose,
and all that contends my will
shall fall by the way,
for my path is straight, my heart is true
and I will never review my past,
the aftermath of pain and loss
that used to riddle my questioning mind,
drag my pain in constant rhyme
and keep me bound,
down for all mistakes and regrets
that now reside within my flesh
as lessons learned in time.
Today I shall see
how providence reaps my bounty,
my gifts upon this earth to glean,
and souls to support
and make my moves more just,
as share I must my thoughts,
to give back what’s given
to me in wisdom,
and each wall that crosses my path
is just a wall to tumble,
when bricks are but my incremental past
as I let go their momentary state,
my present steps to future’s whispered ask.
Today I shall not react,
not in spite attack ignorant and bitter souls,
who roam the streets in blame,
raining on every positive note
from music’s charm and smiling faces,
and forgive them for their rage
and displeasure, blissfully misunderstood
their own scrambled minds,
and smile I will to instill a mind forgiving,
and hope for their uplifting,
to know the world is better
than they think,
perception just a switch.
Today I shall live,
see beauty in everyone’s eyes,
potential in each and every smile
that placates their dull days of past,
so each day is a renewal of halcyon days,
lived with ardor and joy,
and seeking nothing but happiness
in this endless opportunity of life:
trials to bear, lessons to learn
and caring for love’s endowment,
sharing all we are,
in growth and harsh reproach,
uplifted and transformation my oath.
Today I shall live on purpose.
