The Existentialist

Are we adrift in human life,
reliant on a benevolent God,
all the time to plea for consideration
or forgiveness to take the pain away,
or are we placed here purposefully,
to become self-reliant,
to take responsibility for our deeds
and deal with their consequences?
Is God ever vigilant,
watching each one of us
and interceding with divine omniscience,
to be our judge and savior in worth,
or are we at the hands of our decisions,
our choices marking the paths we follow,
and each thought and action a responsibility
we must accept and carry as our burden?
A god of such awesome power would not
create a race of beings with free will,
to then use them as fodder
for torturous games and oppression, surely
a creator of worlds does not bare human traits,
rather allows the governing laws of creation
to exists so we may learn from them, survive,
so we may realize our innate potential.
The human race is not burdened by God
or anyone other than ourselves,
for we choose our paths, and right or wrong
it is we alone who must deal with consequence,
and as our thoughts create circumstance,
there is no-one on which to rely,
no-one to blame or believe is our downfall,
simply our thoughts and actions that create it all.
We exist, that is a fact,
and given an existence we choose how to act,
how to think and what to do
in the process of learning and growing,
and our reality is not always predetermined,
whether poverty, wealth, sickness or health,
all there for our responses and decisions,
how we respond the defining of our soul.
