The Call of Night

The Call of Night
The Call of Night

Aromatic, infused with a gully breeze,
jasmine tipped and honeysuckle blitzed,
redolent notes of must and gifts
too numerous to agree,
the afternoon malaise of summer days,
soothed with such delicate ease.

And the cool finds over-heated flesh,
days relenting for aspired sunset glimmers,
as darkness corrodes the luminous sky,
simmering after glow in horizon’s eyes,
as night becomes and effort subsides,
until awoken nocturnal s rise.

Crickets rasp their grating call,
echoes in the marshes tall
those grasses, like ticks upon the edge of water,
toads croaking hold no quarter,
and a symphony ignites,
crescendos trill and booming fill the glades.

As starlight lights the way,
quarter moon in prideful rise,
glows in luminous peaks to placate its size,
as cosmos turns, reigns in infinity,
auspicious plans of life in divinity,
and we but a blink in its wise old eyes.

And as the fading embers
sink in horizon’s line,
deep velvet cloaks what’s left of sky,
to open the door to eternal prosper,
grinding life and drama’s Oscar,
for all that scripts can play.

For life in many many skins
abides all time and akin to growing,
leaves each life behind,
all born again as new life begins,
in endless swell and in death rescinds the loss,
as birth recounts the cost of transition.

As night explodes
in frantic arrays of movement,
we bless the day that preceded,
the rest that interceded with our ways,
to call to slumber’s rest our weary bodies
blessed, with cycles that attest our days.

Such a beautiful velvety night approaching center stage, cooling weary bodies as slumber calls to rest before the next day, the next life. A glorious time, a lovely verse. I enjoyed this great work, Tony.
