The Blackest Storm

The Blackest Storm
The Blackest Storm

In blackest storm of wrath and spite,
crashing jagged lightning strikes,
as clouds amass like walls of hate,
to frighten hope, to dissipate,
as torrents harsh of rain does pound,
the earth so parched, cracked solid ground,
all broken and bloody from deprivation,
spiteful tears a confused sensation,
as thirst is quenched by malicious intent,
and flashing lights despite the night
as tempest binds the air.

It grasps like talons gnarled and sharp,
stifling breath like an electric arc
around the neck that squeezes tight
to project its fervent will,
and still it rolls overhead, brandishing
its muscular burgeoning form, fed
with a malignant appetite,
swirling winds and frightful electric smiles,
reap fear and dread for all who stand in witness,
to this light show of power, flexing,
lording over the lands below, demanding respect.

Wincing faces under beds,
trembling hands and covered eyes of dread,
as that black mass looms
and exerts its dastardly best,
shutters rattling, windows barely keep one piece,
wood a creaking, rain a seeping under doors,
praying for release,
as glasses jangle and pictures lose their hold,
the tempest wails and pounding rain
unrelenting in its bold attack,
refuse to be restrained.

And hands clenched tight by mothers soothing,
keep their children safe and warm,
as they count the spaces betwixt light and sound,
to know the storm is leaving,
and eyes are wide in desperate plea,
unforgiving storms so contrary,
bluster and crashing, flashes and shaking,
thankfully only temporary,
and time goes by in slow tidings,
as the show does eventually fade,
and life can breath again.
