To Appease That Hole in Me

To Appease That Hole in Me
To Appease That Hole in Me

The floor boards creak
as someone walks the halls,
a sharp but mournful sound,
as Beast my cat snores behind me,
upon my bed in sweet sibilant whistles,
as cars far away mildly echo
in the summer stillness,
and I, tapping away, words flying,
ideas melding into pages,
wisdom of ages and perceptions
woven in the airy cages of my mind.

A plane high above
wafts in and out of audibility,
the winds up high disturbing its resound,
yet one feels its tiny world, so removed,
but touching my mind here on the ground,
and still I write, words drifting in and out,
softly caressing my soul
and bringing the real to light,
the hum of my computer like a mantra,
a meditation to words unsaid,
inspiring phrases not yet fed.

I love this stillness,
as barely echoed sounds
cannot disturb this mind in focus,
sensors like the dressing on a cake,
no distraction from the flavor we must sate,
just a peripheral edge to my pledge to write,
a non-invasive symphony,
a distant human empathy in flight,
when words scribbled to catch their elusive light,
glow upon the page,
and free the birds within my cages.

Curtains full like sails,
hold those puffs of intermittent breeze,
cool on a sunny day, to appease the rising heat,
yet all that pales compared to words,
adopted to illuminate some beauty or not,
thoughts aloft now firmly planted on pristine white,
computer strokes of light in contrast,
and fingers finding squares,
a blur of mind and body paired to be,
a verse of beauty, of meaning
to appease that hole in me, as a poet.

    “words drifting in and out,
    softly caressing my soul”

I love that phrasing Tony. And I enjoyed reading this pleasant, private moments of our beloved poet. Great work. I can almost hear Beast purring, or snoring. lol

This was wonderful, Tony. Yes, writing does appease that hole in most of us. Mine unfortunately, is crying out for fulfilment as writing for my own pleasure and enjoyment has been on the backburner and I have had to give priority to writing for clients. I sense a quiet period approaching though so hopefully I can rectify that. Excellent use of words as usual in this wonderful poem.

So beautiful dear Tony.. It is indeed amazing how you can take a snippet from your usual day and so vividly describe it for us as if we can almost see you typing on your computer…and i so liked your last line.” to appease that hole in me, as a poet”…..thank you so much for sharing…have a wonderful day!!!
