In the End, Honesty

What curtains fall
before the last act is done,
and plots left undone leave questions,
as these can cause much unease,
truth hardly given;
relationships so often are deserted,
never neatly assessed and decided,
and one moves on
as the other in hurt wonders the reasons.
Even though years together
can be profoundly intimate,
it’s hard to accept how inept
the explanations of ending,
hiding behind lies and being ill-advised
just makes the reality worse,
people are rarely ever honest,
leaving a curse of unfinished business,
that lingers in time, unanswered.
The hurt of rejection
can be debilitating,
but not knowing where it went wrong
far worse, as there is no learning,
and so we must face ourselves,
not blame but realize our shortcomings,
then to forgive ourselves
and our partners, for what they saw
and could not accept.
Life is a challenge on many levels,
love a challenge of monumental effect,
either blissful in harmony
or war in contention,
two souls engaged or driven apart
by the differences and perspectives kept,
where one sees more and the other less
of how truth finds the surface.
What we don’t learn will surely re-emerge,
as the learning is necessary,
so forgiveness is the path of honesty,
giving us some clarity
after the end is clear,
and in honesty we discover our faults,
the imbalance we have caused or accepted,
when we let our relationships fall into malaise,
for not facing reality.

These thoughts you share Tony are within me, yet what is so wonderful is how you pull them to the surface for me to really look at and apply to life and situations. I love the line: “so forgiveness is the path of honesty,”. Unfinished business definitely holds one back from learning and growing. I found when I had forgiven my ex, life was so much more peaceful. Excellent work, Tony. Take care. x
Glad you related Phyllis, these are hard learned lessons we all must face in freeing ourselves from our own encumberance. Take care dear friend. Hope you’re feeling better.
Thank you, Tony. I am doing better. All but the one deep wound is closed and healing. I am still typing with one hand. No more pain unless I bump my hand. LOL Why is it we have a knack for bumping the sore place? Take care.X
