Hurt and Fear in Our Lives

Hurt and Fear in Our Lives
Hurt and Fear in Our Lives

Hurt echoes in a mind far longer than joy,
and like a weighted cover it dulls life,
attaches itself to involuntary thoughts,
as if to keep the flame burning,
while joyous experience lingers only
in the sweet flow of dreams.

We cling to the hurts
as if to remind us where we went wrong,
yet we so often are unaware,
and keep recalling because hurt is inflicted,
and we find it difficult to accept
within our self-belief, our own propriety.

The problem remains, as this baggage
we so adopt as part of us,
can collectively create a weight of encumbrance,
where, like a ball and chain, it slows us,
makes us less likely to respond quickly
to reality’s upholding needs.

The negative is a wily beast,
and like fine roots it infiltrates our positive mind,
and in the end, undermines our positive steps
with doubt and fear,
and all that keeps a mind distracted,
unable to take wanted steps.

So why is the negative so powerful
in its lingering influence,
when love surely has the upper hand,
it is because fear feeds our insecurity,
the human vessel here to find the self,
and shed the skin of doubt, in order to ascend.

We have free will, given choices
and the creation of our chosen paths,
but the vessel we intend growing in knowledge and wisdom
is prone to its own lack of strength,
fear the very thing we are trying to void,
and so we struggle within this irony of growth.

Love is the foundation of all ascension,
and hurt teaches us, often brutally,
that we are imperfect,
but also we have the choice to rid ourselves of fear,
and bury those hurts from the past
in order to be free in love’s grace.

A very thought provoking write dear Tony..I really liked how you wrote about negativity as a wily beast that infiltrates our positive minds..it comes as a visitor, conquers our mind and then drives out all positive thoughts..as you said, the better way is to forgive and forget and move on with our lives…thank you so much for sharing…
