Freedom Flight of the Grounded

The flighted dove recalls not its plight,
freedom is simply its life,
and nature’s twists and turns not considered ill,
just the texture of days,
instilled in respect of all life’s movement,
and that dove knows each single moment,
survival is its path to follow,
and so in harmony with all contention,
and without apprehension, it lives
upon the updrafts, the downdrafts,
the peaks and troughs of being.
We are no different in life,
we either accept freedom
and the consequences of our movement,
or in inharmonious plight,
struggle with life’s array of circumstance,
the undulations of days and the whims of nature,
enacting its recompense for imbalance;
and still we do not accept,
bereft of knowing our unwise directions,
selections of dire consequence,
of blame and displacement.
As a child I dreamed of flight,
yet now I see I have realized my wish,
this state of freedom within me all along,
’twas my ignorance that saw it wrong
and kept me on the ground;
so now I do not struggle,
let life carry me upon its whims,
for wanting has destroyed everything,
but accepting has open doors
I did not know exist,
and I embrace them with ardor.
Freedom is within,
and just as the dove accepts it life, so should we,
without the limitations we so need for security,
for there is no such thing, just freedom,
and an open heart to accept the changing currents of life,
as survival just requires appreciation,
and a perspective of openness,
as we travail time and space,
one heart, one soul interlaced with life itself,
as we take responsibility for this journey
of wonder and learning.

An open and loving heart gives us the freedom of the dove. I love this piece Tony. Nicely penned. Take care my dear poet.
Pleased you enjoyed it Phyllis, as freedom is our right in life to realize, and when we do a new world opens up. It’s all about perspective. Take care.
Lovely words dear Tony…the dove enjoys freedom of its flight, takes each day as it comes, and accepts with grace the ups and downs of life ..we too can enjoy freedom as long as we are willing to take responsibility for our actions..thank you so much for sharing this thought provoking write..
Glad you appreciated it Anjana. Take care my friend.
