Face to Face, Are We Good Enough?

Tribulations like inevitable tempests
in wait at the periphery,
loom over a heart’s complicity,
for all the human plays of self projection,
lost in the maelstrom of chaos
we so choose in our misguided pursuits.
They amass to points of release,
when worlds tumble and loss entreats
re-accessing the paradigms we so abuse,
when blindness ensues over reality,
and the self becomes an untenable
act of defiance.
The ego learns to fly quickly,
given enough space and anxiety,
as its survival is its purpose, regardless of service
it gleans any untruth to bolster what is perceived,
a reprieve from hiding, the clandestine acts
of self-reliance.
But in the end, the calamity caused
by ego’s need for applause,
takes a soul on paths unwanted,
harsh deterrents and recompense
that questions selfish motives,
the pathway of our downfall.
Even in knowledge, storms still amass,
change so necessary we all but collapse
into a comatose d delusion of truth,
a ruse we use on ourselves,
reality too bruised and beaten to atone
the illusions we own.
Why do we so malign truth,
when it contradicts our petty egos,
just to maintain some semblance of order,
a belief that isn’t true,
but soothes our worried minds,
just to accept who we are is good enough.
