Every Breath Another Deception

This morning I received a letter from the state government, an application for discounts on energy costs. Wonderful I thought, every little bit helps. I filled out the form, which most of my information was already complete, and thought I’d better read it all before signing and posting. To my dismay the application was in fact a clever ploy to sign up with another energy company, and upon further investigation, I realized I was already receiving these discounts with my present provider. This is supported by the state government: how can this be?
What goes on behind closed doors we will never know, but one way or another everything is about money. Thus the prompting to write this poem.
How deception flavors everything we’re fed,
no matter the outward intention,
no matter how and why it is said,
the underlying current is money
the soliciting of wealth,
and no smile of assurance or guarantee
can dig a way out
of this fundamental truth.
It saddens me to know,
how shallow the world has become,
and how blatantly manipulative
both business and governments run,
accumulating wealth is all there is,
and the means of acquiring it like a rabid dog unleashed,
and we can have little say against Big Brother,
our rights and souls now breached.
There’s nothing they won’t do
to have their way at our expense,
and when we complain we realize
just how little our voice is meant
to have any sway at all,
and nothing changes no matter what,
governments and businesses come and go
but the intention remains.
This glorified paradigm is empty,
no happiness is proffered just greed
and the power of a competitive self,
shallow and pointless pursuits in reality,
yet the world is convinced in its authenticity,
willing to follow paths of emptiness
just to comply with Big Brothers secret intent,
to control, everything.
I have found nothing in this particular life,
money beyond necessity the sharp blade of a knife,
and the heart yearns for a meatier being,
a spiritual calm and a love filled dream
made reality, which is far from selfish acquisition,
and so by admission,
I fit not into this lost paradigm,
and remain watchful but apart in mind.

It is funny too how these companies and now even governments sugarcoat all these elaborate schemes and make them look so desirable, until you read the fine print and only the gullible at this point don’t read the fine print or look into the schemes. Crazy that the government has the fortitude to do this.
Thanks Paul, yes I was shocked; I guess there’s no telling what they can do in their quest for wealth. Cheers!
