Within the Flow of Life

Wanting is a path of misery,
as happiness is what we believe to be the result
when we achieve our goals, yet when we arrive,
that happiness is fleeting, so we begin a new cycle,
a new goal, always believing happiness awaits,
but to no avail.
Striving is a hollow practice,
driven by the ego, and once again,
in achievement we believe happiness the reward,
yet we discover the moment passes
and again we search for attainment
the means of procuring happiness.
Happiness is and will always be a decision,
we are either happy or not,
as each moment of life comes and goes
within its woven circumstance,
and how we experience it, regardless of judgement,
is up to us, living in the present.
The ego, or persona is necessary,
as we need self-confidence and self assurance
to be able to exist on this physical plane,
to be able to learn, to consider and to decide our direction,
but the ego in itself is monumentally selfish,
driven to create belief within acceptable parameters.
In order to uphold acceptability,
the ego is capable of creating delusion,
padded truths that protect and allow feelings of security,
and for this reason we need to understand ourselves,
to face our truths and be honest
in order to progress without the encumbrance of the lie.
Inner peace and true security comes from acceptance,
from knowing who we are, our faults and propensities,
our biases and leaned negative behaviors,
only then can we surrender to life’s purpose,
to forgive and learn and ultimately find happiness
within the appreciation and opportunity of life itself.
Without the burden of pursuit, of striving and wanting,
we accept whatever we have as an abundance,
and from that perspective happiness becomes a state of mind,
not driven by ego, attainment or comparison,
but a will to accept life with all its gifts,
and in a calm and peaceful way observe the flow.

Happiness is different for everyone and it is something I think we all strive for in the end. Sometimes when we think we reached that goal of happiness – we find out maybe it was not all we thought it to be. I for one never give up in that search and I think it makes me a better person in the long run Tony.. I enjoyed this very much.
Glad you did Kurt, and happiness is really all we want, everything else is just circumstance. Cheers my friend.
Wonderful work, Tony. Happiness comes in so many ways. I think about the life experiences my parents told us and marvel at the most simple things that gave them happiness. Then I look at so many people today who struggle to achieve the most of everything to make them happy. We all want to be happy in life – to accept and appreciate what we have puts us in a peaceful flow of life. Well done, Tony.
Thanks Phyllis, glad you enjoyed the work; we need only choose to be happy and life will accommodate. Take care.
