Winter Wonderland – Flakes Falling Everywhere
I stand in silence of happiness
My grin growing to a smile
My smile overflowing to a joyous chuckle
Eyes fixed on the falling snow
Laughing out loud from pure enjoyment
Flakes of fluffy whiteness
Dancing and jumping on the wind
Swirling and twirling like tiny performers
I lean forward almost expecting more
Perhaps a chorus or song
Bursting through the atmosphere
The rosiness in my cheeks
Fills every bone to the brim
I’m compelled to run and spin
My tongue hanging out all the while
Trying to catch that elusive flake
Perhaps it’s the little boy in me
Trying to once again claim the moment
Thoughts of snow angels
Snowmen, forts, and igloos
Running in circles until no more
My old man lungs, burning
Labored breathing for a moment or three
Winter fun, like it used to be
From the fields my house looks very small
In fact I can hardly see it at all
As the flakes keep piling
I keep smiling
Reminiscing as I take the long walk back
The sledding hill over yonder
Snowball alley and the hiding trees
Drifts covering the garden path
My frozen paradise
Safely hidden in my own backyard
My fireplace is calling
Yet my feet keep stalling
As the flakes keep falling
Now I finally understand
Why they call winter a wonderland

I love this, Ralph. Snowfall is magical, beautiful, and brings out the kid in us. Winter really is a wonderland – although now I stay inside and watch it from a window. Delightful and enjoyable poem.
Love to spend a Christmas in winter and soak up all that beautiful snow. So evocative Ralph, want to come over right away. Lovely work.
I thought I was the only one that loved the winter cold and snow Ralph – There is something so peaceful about the winter wonderland that makes it a favorite of mine. Enjoyed this very much.
