The Scope of Reality

The Scope of Reality
The Scope of Reality

Reality limps to its resolution,
sagacious minds having bent time,
placed irrevocable impediments
upon its dark plight,
and I wonder what truth lays beneath,
all the aberrant anomalies,
that beseech the mind to let go
what was first thought as fact.

Our beliefs fluctuate,
attentive to the tremors of change,
yet steadfast in holding onto lies,
that placate our fears
and keep our dreams alive,
even though we know deceit,
still cheat ourselves
from the subtlety of truth.

In the end, who knows what’s up or down,
what’s real or profoundly wrong,
as long as it belongs to our wants
we can live with the lie,
accept the burden of deceit
and pretend to be
just who we think we should,
in the delusion of our reality.

So maligned the truth,
when reality is an endless din,
neither finite nor infinite,
just a ruse we humans use
to get through the day,
and no matter how blatant reality,
there is always a quantity of change
we must make, to satisfy the ego.

We live in delusion of an illusion,
the parameters of our life,
set by powers beyond our means,
who dictate their reality that we believe:
consumerism, hatred and patriotic deceit,
the callings we must bear,
just to share the insanity of yet another reality.

Time limps to its irresolution,
repetition like written scores ensue,
and no-one notices the ruse,
as reality a rolled dice,
losing yet another game.

Living in a snow globe calls for repetition, the same thing over and over – just a little shake up and all returns to the same old scene. Sometimes a crack in the globe is necessary for escape and a new life. Very thought provoking piece, Tony, which you are so skilled at. Well done.
