Renewal and Replacement

Renewal and Replacement

In garish rays the sun mocks the stars upon Orion,

Restaging the flora and fauna that hours ago died.

The gilded orb erupts in the distant horizon

with amber breath it consumes the velvet sky.

Can an ephemeral flame define the darkness,

when saddened cries have expired the light of each day

in dreams of clarity, a gone heart’s catharsis

No more to drown in useless tears and fade away

Too long we’ve stridden theses inlays in hatred’s home

Wresting love’s raiment and relics to keep them in shame

In ire and vexation we devour them alone

When spiraling down, upon our tears, goes the game.

How vulnerable, how trustworthy, the human heart,

It is but a docile lamb in need of a shepherd

Tis a motley bunch of emotions, each playing part,

each driven by hungers that remain unmeasured.

What is it all, but a balance, a lover’s scale,

Tilted whichever way our heartstrings decide to pull.

In the end, the heartsick struggles may have no avail,

Though we down them by the spoonful, and each have roomfuls.

But with each transient ray of soul that we embrace

We stand within that familiar conviction of life,

Understanding that like the day, all things are replaced,

from a cell in the body, to the sheen on a knife.

And like the darkness of night replaces the day

So do spring flowers, untested, replace the withered blades

The sun from a different light, shines brighter some days

And love can grow from a wilted vine, unafraid,—

Knowing somehow, someway, Love always conquers hate

And life is about self-renewal, of faith, of trust,

Of the simplistic things we take for granted of late,

And our obtuse theories are no more than stardust,—

Stardust lathered in an infinite ocean of darkness,

Where all it takes is one ray to conquer the void,

And one ray with the power of love to harness

to ignite the soul and relieve hatred of its ploy.

So true Paul and beautifully structured and expressed. Some esoteric thoughts and truths for us to contemplate and I loved the feel of this one, self-explanatory yet deeper levels to explore. Lovely work my friend.
