The Finesse of Choosing

We have choice,
the very process of our circumstances,
and in making choices
we must accept the consequences,
but how do we make day to day choices,
from the heart, from reason,
or perhaps even propensities,
our learned biases and experiences
voicing constant concern for our decisions.
Really it’s all of those, and
if we are aware of ourselves,
we’ll know the fallacy of our learned behaviors
and respond appropriately;
being aware has many facets,
but if we are intuitive,
knowing not to walk into a room,
knowing when to leave or in fact
not go somewhere in the first place, is a blessing.
If we learn to be conscious of our senses,
hone those feelings and understand,
our path in life changes considerably,
because we are aware enough
to avoid harm or contention,
or simply protect ourselves
from unwanted circumstances;
and also to know what will be good for us,
what we need, from people, circumstances or place.
The choices we make are important,
as they direct the ensuing circumstances,
and we so often miss the nuances of a situation,
to either miss out on something positive,
or fall into an unwanted condition,
and being open to our senses
is the first step to knowing ourselves better,
to understand what we need and don’t,
thus giving us a broader perspective on life.

We have so many choices in life. It is so important to be aware of our senses and hone in on them, as you say. As we get older we find it ever more important to give extra care and thought to our choices. This is a very good message / life lesson you share, Tony – it settle well in the heart and soul. Great work, dear friend.
Much appreciated Phyllis, your kind words are always a comfort for this old poet. Cheers!
