When Soul Mates Turn Out to be Soul Weights
When Soul Mates Turn Out to be Soul Weights

For the want of you I clung to hope,
despite the fact there was none,
and held so long a fantasy,
that you’d return to me,
but as time healed the hurt inside
and light ventured into my eyes,
I saw that we were through,
and in the end,
I realized it was better for me too,
for you were lost within yourself,
and what I couldn’t see then
is now so blatantly true,
love was never really you,
yet I held it all together in delusion,
wanting that infinite infusion
of love’s rewards.
How blind is love,
truth so neatly stored away,
when reality is so hard to take,
and we strive to follow our dreams,
even though it would seem
we are just misleading ourselves,
yet love is so sought and held,
treasured for it potential,
as we so often glean nothing
beyond our hope,
and see little of the seams
that eventually will spit,
and in shock and loss we ignore the truth,
tell ourselves its just a bump in the road,
when truly the illusion of bliss,
is six feet under.
We so often ignore our needs,
and follow our wants, our fantasies,
to find what we thought full, empty,
and in loves hold, we see what we wish,
ignoring the details and risks
that may later cause us harm,
all for the want of love’s nectar,
that afferent narcotic of solace and bliss,
yet relationships are far more complex,
and connection of the mind the key,
for passion fades in time,
but love may grow forever,
empower us with far more contentment
and a pleasured life,
filled with love deeper than any form of passion,
and for that a soul mate,
an eternal friend must be found.

The way of Love is often mysterious, yet it seems like you understand far more about what love is, Tony. I believe we each have a soul mate and eternal friend. Very well penned with emotive phrases. Great work from heart and soul.
PS: You forgot to add a keyword. Do you want me to take a look and add one, or shall you?
Thanks Phyllis, glad you enjoyed. I’ll do it, thanks anyway. How could I forget that?
Once again the poet in us all finds out that affairs of the heart may never be understood… Wonderful piece Tony.
Much appreciated Kurt, glad you enjoyed it my friend. Cheers!
I really enjoyed your words, Tony. I believe that we all have a soul mate in life. Your words rang true of a very special soul mate that I had many years ago. I wonder if a soul mate is just another engaging thought for fantasies, and emotions that we can not handle.
Thanks Annette, glad you enjoyed the piece. Having been married three times O not entirely sure about soul mates, but many have found them. Cheers!
