Modern Vampires

Wrapped up in the avalanche,
from the foaming mouths of malcontent,
whittling away the good,
the expectations of sharing life,
until strife, like a speeding truck impacts,
crushed heart and bloody tracks,
where I used to stand.
Voices resound like sweet chapel bells,
enticements here and there,
and when that door opens
all hell breaks loose,
as stress just attests more stress,
lives in panic and undercurrents felt,
that take your soul into a vortex of confusion.
Why has everything changed,
every process falling apart,
the art of someone’s meddling,
someone’s random undulations
the cause of every radical obstacle,
like flags a waving in warning,
and we, ‘red’ color blind.
One can feel the energy sucked out,
as these drama queens enact their day,
and kindness is no help,
the entree to further hurt and pain,
as that vortex draws us in
to someone else’s play,
and we the damaged for our part.
Now I walk across the road,
stealth my new found code,
just to avoid these minds,
as assistance cannot help their kind,
and we all worse for wear,
when knowing them
just brings despair and heartache.
They, the vampires of the age,
suck the life from our very bones,
and leave us wanting,
as they vitalized skip happily away,
off to their next adventure,
unaware of their dire effect,
the strewn bodies of their victims, behind them.

Good grief ! Have they no inkling of the bloodletting, stress, hurt and pain they cause? Maybe they do. Very well expressed and penned verse, Tony. Got garlic?
Thanks Phyllis, I know a few. lol Take care.
The inevitability of the Psychic Vampire and their energy theft is such a concern today; using and discarding their victims after only parasitically draining them….Very powerful piece Tony – I like how it gains speed towards the midpoint and then lumbers into the station out-of-control, leaving the reader bruised and exhausted at the close…while the bloodsuckers skip away merrily looking for a new victim
Pleased you enjoyed it Ralph, take care my friend. Cheers!
