The Streets Swallow Souls

Legs and arms attached by string,
hanging meat from the butchers cleave,
in dark rooms quenched with blood,
with hammer bludgeoned skulls,
as splattered red walls hung,
the offal writhes on wooden benches,
human waste and stank avenges,
as flies hum in frantic rapture.
The drip, drip, but no tap resounds,
blood to ground as viscous pools abound,
and flesh necrotic still and breaking down,
attests the halls of madmen,
fantasy and lustful peaks of sexuality,
strange reason and ambiguity,
paths of heinous acts attract
the minds of mortal twists.
And who knows this hall of horrors,
a quiet man, keeps to himself,
yet his simple mind needs fulfilling,
death and pieces carved to quantify
his want of spilling blood,
body parts the center of his theme,
so good a human body cleaned by blade,
pieces made to fit his grotesque parade.
His work day done,
he retires upstairs to a steak so fresh,
and watches his favorite show,
‘Family Feud’ he laughs allowed,
enjoyment as his needs are met complete,
and dishes cleaned in pragmatic way,
kitchen spotless, his butterfly collection
in vast array, gives pleasure.
Early to sleep,
dreamless nights so peaceful,
and at dawn he cruises the back streets,
homeless souls in cardboard mansions,
find their way into his enticing van,
a meal, a shower and promised peace
from the relentless streets,
that swallow a soul without attention.

It’s okay – I was just teasing. All is well, Tony.
Excellent. The psychological scare factor was at it fullest in this one Tony….and to think these people actually exist tucked away in their own nightmares. Nice job.
Much appreciated Paul, glad you enjoyed it my friend. Cheers!
